FORMATION
OF THE BOARD

|
|
The State Electricity Board is formed
under Section 5 of the Electricity (Supply) Act, 1948,
which Is a Central Act. The Bombay Electricity Board
was formed on 6th November, 1954 and continued upto
31-3-1957. The Bombay State Electricity Board was formed
on 1-4-1957 and continued upto 19th June, 1960. The
Maharashtra State Electricity Board came into existence
on 20th June 1960. The term of office of the Chairman
and every other Member of the Board is for a period
of 3 years from the date of appointment as a Member.

In
terms of Section 5 (4) of the Electricity (Supply) Act,
1948 Of the Members -- |
| |
|
| |
(a) |
one shall be a person who has experience
of, and has shown capacity in, commercial matters and
administration
|
| |
|
| |
(b) |
one shall be an electrical engineer
with wide experience; and
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
| |
(c) |
one shall be a person who has experience
of accounting and financial matters in a public utility
undertaking preferably an electricity supply undertaking.

|
|
| |
(5) |
One of the members possessing any of
the qualifications specified in sub-section (4) shall
be appointed by the State Government to be the Chairman
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
