Maharashtra State Electricity Board

Mercantile Bank Building ,

Fort, Bombay-l

Date: 2nd March, 1963.

Departmental Circular No. 21
(Commercial)

Sub : Service connection without the consent of the land-lord.

After the Indian Electricity Act 1910 was amended on 5-9-1959, it is now permissible to give connection with the consent of the owner or occupier. Previously the said Act provided that connection can be given only with the permission of both the owner and the occupier.  In view of the amendment, although it is not necessary to insist on the consent of the landlord for giving service connection to any premises, it has to be ascertained the applicant is a bonafide occupier of the premises, where he is not the owner. All field officers are therefore requested to ensure that the 'occupier' produces the latest rent receipt to show that he is the bonafide occupier of the premises on which the supply required. The connection is to be given only in the name of the tenant as shown in the rent receipt, and mentioned in the rent receipt. not if the applicant is not the same person as mentioned in the rent receipt..............................................
