Government
in Industries & Labour Department were requested
vide this off ice letter No.PG-32/51838 dated 12-10-1963
to consider the matter of exempting the power consumed
for street lighting purposes in our staff colonies
as In the case of the Local Authorities who are exempted
from payment of electricity duty in respect of public
street lighting.
Government
under their letter No. ELD-1763/145437 Elec. I dated
11-9-1964 have now informed that our request cannot
be granted since the consumption of energy for street
lighting in our staff colonies does not come within
the preview of section (3) (2) (a) (ia) of the Bombay
Electricity Duty Act, 1958 because in the case of
the Board, the lighting of streets in lighting of
a private road and not a public one as in the case
of a Municipality.
All
concerned are therefore requested to note the above
and pay the electricity duty to Government on the
consumption of electrical energy for street lighting
purposes in our staff colonies.
